So the reason why I started getting Calgel manicures last year is because I've been struggling with my nail biting habit for my entire life. I think I picked it up from my mom... she picks at her nails when she gets anxious as well, and I think I just watched her as a child and copied her or something... or maybe we just have the same personality?
But anyway, for years I was never able to grow my nails long because I would keep picking at them, or biting them. I remember when I got my first boyfriend in high school, I told myself I had to make myself pretty and was finally able to curb it significantly by painting my nails... as long as I have a perfect manicure, I don't touch my nails. LOL I just want to feel beautiful, huh!
But what's the problem with nail polish? -____- Of course it chips and peels like crazy, and so inevitably, I will be stuck somewhere and notice my chipped polish and lose it. I can't stand having mismatched nails (like having one super short and another long, or one without polish and one with polish...) and just pick all my nail polish off, and then of course I'll start picking at my nails because they're so long... Ultimately I always end up back where I started and I have to wait weeks before they grow out again. :(
So when I discovered UV gel manicures, I was ecstatic. A lot of my friends think I'm mad because I pay so much money for manicures but for me, it's really a godsend. Having short nails bitten to the flesh really makes me feel gross... because it is gross. -_- Calgel makes my nails super strong so they don't break anymore, and the polish stays perfect for weeks.
HOWEVER!!! While my friends' manicures stay on for weeks and weeks, I've found that mine start lifting around the 2 week mark. It's really frustrating because that's where my anxieties kick in again and I find myself unable to resist peeling the polish off when I find one that's lifting at a corner... and of course, when one goes, the rest have to go. :(
I was super stressed out by class resuming again yesterday and low and behold all my nails were naked by the end of the day. BOO!!!! I'm always so disappointed in myself for caving in; I feel like a child!
I tried looking up on the internet to see why my nails always start lifting so soon, because maybe if I can figure out how to prolong them, I won't be as tempted to start picking at them when I notice a corner lifting. And I fucking found out that if you use moisturizer on your hands too often, your nail beds become oily and that's what causes the Calgel to recede and start flipping up. .........WTF?!? Everyone know's I'm obsessed with hand lotion... I keep like two in each bag I own so no matter what I always leave the house with hand lotion (same goes for lip balm). So this comes as sad news to me... but summer is coming, so hopefully I really won't need to use hand lotion as much...
So that's that... my nails are naked again after a week and a half. It totally blows. I have another appointment with Jessie in two weeks and I hope none of my nails break before then. :<
But besides that, I just bought this new nail polish and it's sooo cute. It's a champagne pink glitter!

Yeah, lasting only 2 weeks is odd... mine lasted nearly 2 months, which at that point a few only came off when provoked (one really drunk night) and even with that they were a bitch to rip off.
Can totally emphasize with your habit though. Nails are such an easy area to attack when you're getting anxious :/ It's like that whole thing when a sweater has a string hanging off. You want to just rip that fucking string off! But it never ends there, oh no.
Glitter is too cute ♥ Actually thought you got another manicure xD
Cute nails!! I totally feel you, before I got introduced to gel manicures I always had gross short nails down to the flesh too. I love that the gel keeps my nails looking beautiful for such a long time, I got addicted so easily haha~
I'm gonna try and keep my current gel manicure from the beginning of March another few weeks before I get them done again...a few of them have started to lift up but I've been painting over them with clear nail polish every few days to stick em back down again.
Omg this post...is 100% relevant to me!! All the same exact things I've gone through with nails! I was able to stop, but then when they grew, one nail would start to come off, so I bit the rest off and started all over again. Omg T_TI know how you feel exactly!
